Instead of turning on the oven, look for a baked potato with crisp skins and lightly fluffy insides. Use the air fryer instead!

The air fryer makes a baked potato taste even better than when cooked in the oven. Crunchy exteriors paired with tender interiors – that’s what you get when the air fryer works its magic on potatoes.

Air fryers help you achieve a perfect balance between crispy outside and soft inside, saving time while cooking. A great alternative for sunnier days, this technique frees up oven space.

Oven or Air Fryer: Which makes the best baked Potato?

A difference was clear when cooking one baked potato in each, the air fryer and the oven.

Less time: Air frying a baked potato takes less time than oven baking. Taking 40 to 45 minutes to become tender and crisp while an hour in the oven is how a potato compares.

Crisper skin: Air fryers produce crispier potato skin than traditional methods. Microwaved potatoes have their skin stay crispier longer than oven-baked ones.

Fluffier interior: Fluffier and lighter, the interior of the baked potato in an air fryer was. With greater moisture inside, the potato feels denser after being baked in an oven.

Air Fryer Baked Potato Tips

Just like when baked, russets excel at air frying too. With their high starch content and low moisture levels, potatoes are well-suited for dry heat cooking techniques.

Best suited for both baking and air frying, russet potatoes stand out. With their low moisture and high starch content, they thrive under dry heat cooking conditions.

To evenly cook the potatoes, leave space between each one in the basket.

Temperature and Cook Time:

Instead of the standard 400°F, in this recipe, potatoes are cooked at 390°F. Temperature hikes must be fought against. With higher temperatures, thicker, firmer layers under the skin form when cooking potatoes. At 390°F, cooking potatoes results in a thin, crisp exterior that is more pleasurable.

Cook time depends on the size of your potato. Potatoes must cook for 25 to 30 minutes, depending on their size. How long does it take to cook 8 to 10 bounce potatoes? About 40 to 45 minutes! For large potatoes (around 12 ounces), an hour is needed.

How to reheat Air Fryer Baked Potatoes?

·         If necessary, heat the air fryer to 375°F on the air fryer setting.

·         Into the basket of the air fryer place the remaining potato ensuring an inch separation between each one if reheating multiple (if reheating multiple).

·         Reheat the basket until the potato inside has been cooked through and the exterior has crispened again, about 7 to 10 minutes.

·         SERVINGS

·         YIELD

·         4 medium baked potatoes

·         With capacity for four mediums to medium-large potatoes, this recipe was created within a 6-quart air fryer. Smaller air fryers require batch cooking of potatoes.

Ingredients

·         About 10 ounces each, four mediums to medium-large russet potatoes.

·         1 tablespoon olive oil, divided

·         1/2 teaspoon kosher salt divided, plus extra for serving.

·         Serving may include freshly ground black pepper, unsalted butter, shredded sharp cheddar, sour cream, and/or scallions (as preferred)

Method

·         Prepare the air fryer and potatoes:

·         At 390°F, preheat the air fryer according to requirement. Multiple settings mean you should choose the "air fry" option for your air fryer.

·         First, wash the potatoes, then scrub them, and finally dry them with a towel.

Air fryer the potatoes:

Between each potato, leave about 1 inch in the basket of the air fryer.

Cook in 390°F oil for between 40 to 50 minutes, turning each potato midway through if you want crispy outside and tender inside potatoes.

Serve:

Take the potatoes from the air fryer with tongs. Through the top of each potato, cut slices with a sharp knife without going all the way through.

Fluffing happens with a fork inside the potato. To taste, top with salt, pepper, unsalted butter, cheese, sour cream, and/or scallions. Still hot on the inside and crispy on the outside, serve now.
